One score and four
years ago the World Commission on Environment and Development brought forth
upon this planet a new vision, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the
proposition that the economy and the environment can be sustained in harmony.
It is for us the current generation to be dedicated to the unfinished work
which they have so nobly advanced -- that this planet, under God, shall have a
new birth of reason -- and that interlinkages, intergenerational equity, and
dynamic efficiency shall not perish from the Earth.
